About the Tea Farm
The land that Liberty Tea and Textiles calls home has been in the family since 1807 — 219 years and counting. That's older than Mississippi itself. For generations this 52-acre property in Liberty has been part of our family's story, a mix of open fields and deep woods that has weathered everything history could throw at it.
When we returned to the land, the question wasn't whether to use it — it was what to grow. After extensive research the answer became clear: tea. Camellia sinensis, the plant behind every cup of black, green, and oolong tea in the world, grows remarkably well in Mississippi's climate. And American-grown tea is one of the most exciting and undersupplied markets in the country right now.
We started from seed. Every plant in the ground was grown by hand, and every mistake made along the way has been a lesson worth learning. Today we have approximately 200 plants established in the field and another 200 coming along in our nursery. The first harvest is still about two years away.
We are actively working toward Century Farm designation — a recognition that feels long overdue for land that has been in one family for over two centuries.
This is the long game. And we think it's worth playing.
